Subscription and Purchase Terms

How one-time purchases, recurring services, managed service packages, billing, renewals, and account access are handled.

1. What this document covers

These Subscription and Purchase Terms describe how Empire plans, guided implementation services, and the managed Individual Taxes service are purchased, charged, and delivered. They form part of the Terms of Use.

2. One-time Empire plans

Empire plans are purchased as a one-time charge for the plan you select. The price shown for a plan is the price charged at checkout.

A one-time plan purchase gives you access to the software scope described for that plan, together with any implementation work stated as included in that plan.

A one-time plan purchase is not an automatically renewing subscription and is not billed again unless you choose to purchase an upgrade or an additional service.

3. Managed Individual Taxes

Managed Individual Taxes is a separate one-time service purchased per package and per filing scope. It is not part of any Empire software plan and is not included in a plan price.

Each package states the situations it covers. Work outside the purchased package — additional income sources, additional properties, or additional schedules — requires a further purchase or a written scope change before it is performed.

Delivery begins once you have supplied the records the package requires. Delays in providing records delay delivery.

4. Subscriptions

Where a service is offered on a recurring basis, the billing period, renewal date, and cancellation deadline are displayed before you purchase and are confirmed in your purchase receipt.

Recurring charges continue until cancelled. Cancelling stops future charges; it does not retroactively cancel a period already begun.

If we change the price of a recurring service, we will give notice before the change applies to your next renewal.

5. Upgrades

You may upgrade to a higher plan at any time. Upgrades are charged as the difference between the plan you hold and the plan you are moving to, calculated at the prices in effect at the time of the upgrade.

Downgrades of a one-time plan are not available; a one-time purchase is not refunded on the basis that a smaller plan would have been sufficient.

6. Taxes

Prices are exclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise at checkout. Any tax, levy, or duty imposed on the transaction is added at checkout or invoiced separately as required by law.

7. Payment and currency

Prices are shown in United States dollars. Payment is processed by our payment provider; Empire Platforms does not store full card details.

If a payment fails or is reversed, we may suspend access to the affected plan or service until payment is resolved.

8. Delivery and scope

Software access is provisioned once payment is confirmed and your workspace has been created.

Guided implementation work is scheduled with you after purchase and depends on your availability and the information you provide.

What each plan and service includes, and what it excludes, is described on the Pricing, Services, and Individual Taxes pages. Nothing outside those descriptions is included.

9. Fair use of guided work

Guided implementation and priority assistance cover work on your Empire workspace: configuration, structuring, imports, workflow setup, exports, and platform questions.

They do not cover bookkeeping, reconstruction of missing records, professional advice, or work in systems other than Empire.

10. Refunds and cancellation

Refund and cancellation outcomes are set out in the Refund and Cancellation Policy.

11. Changes and contact

We may update these terms. The current version is published at empirekeep.com/legal/subscription-terms with a “Last updated” date.
